In an interview Prince Joachim gave to Billed Bladet's Trine Larsen while in Mozambique for CARE Denmark recently (Billed Bladet no. 19, 2008), he revealed his boys are to be his best men at the wedding. Nikolai and Felix are to be his best men. Some had speculated about Frederik, but as Joachim pointed out, Frederik was his best man in 1995. When asked why not again, he replied, "It wouldn't be natural. Because now I have two sons and so it has to be them. They are my everything, my two gold nuggets and because they also have a big place in the heart of my future wife, it is simply more natural that both Nikolai and Felix are my best men in the church."
It was supposed to be a secret to be revealed on the day itself, admits Joachim. Oh, well! Joachim is also in charge of planning the honeymoon and Marie doesn't know where they will go. The boys are not going with them.

  • JV.dk - two days before the wedding Prince Joachim and Marie Cavallier will be given an official reception at the Tønder Town Hall by the Tønder Kommune. Also in Politiken.

  • Følg det kongelige bryllup på TV 2 - there will be plenty of coverage of the wedding and associated events on TV2

  • Marie will keep the French pronunciation of her name as Princess Marie of Denmark, just as Crown Princess Mary did. This is unlike Prince Henrik, who had his name changed from French Henri, to Danish Henrik with their two very different pronunciations. There isn't a lot of difference between the French and Danish pronunciation of the name Marie, except that in official Danish the ending -e is pronounced, but it is effectively missing in daily speech and so is quite similar to the usual French pronunciation.

  • POST Greenland has issued a celebratory stamp issue to mark Joachim's and Marie's nuptials

  • A suggested guest list from JV.dk (an official list has not yet been released)

  • The Royal Yacht Dannebrog will be used as a floating hotel, according to TV2, since Schackenborg Castle and Gråsten Palace are both fully occupied with guests from home and abroad. Dannebrog will be used too as a temporary home for the officers and court officials who have tasks in relation to the wedding of Joachim and Marie

  • Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will attend, as will Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit, and also Princess Märtha Louise and Ari Behn from Norway

  • All the Berleburgs will attend including Carina Axelsson. Prince Richard is still a bit frail following illness but will nevertheless attend. Princess Nathalie's boyfriend will not attend as it would make him 'official'. Benedikte and Richard will stay at Gråsten Palace during the wedding

  • Joachim's & Marie's combined monogram designed by Prince Joachim and heraldry expert Ronny Andersen

  • From The Copenhagen Post 'Bakers looking forward to royal wedding'

  • TV2's wedding trailer (00:45)
TV2 will sreen an interview with Joachim and Marie next Thursday (May 22) and then continue three days of coverage.
