Frederik @ Red Cross refugee centre for kids

Today Crown Prince Frederik has visited the Red Cross children's refugee centre at Gribskov in Græsted, North Zealand. Frederik is a patron of the Danish Red Cross and the visit was to the Red Cross' Gribskov Centre which is a reception centre for young unaccompanied children who are seeking asylum in Denmark. Since such children are especially vulnerable, the centre is a refuge for children until they get a residential permit or leave Denmark. There are around 25 kids at the centre which has 24 hour security. For the first six weeks after arriving in Denmark, the children are able to get medical care if they need it, they are introduced to normal practices of everyday life in Denmark, get to know the local area and have a Danish language teacher who understands their special situation. After six weeks the kids move to another children's house where they live until their asylum case is decided.

The children go to the Danish Red Cross school at Lynge or to local primary schools. At the Gribskov centre there are different activities for kids in workshops, a gym and other activity spaces, as well as the possibility to join in activities in the local area. For all the children they learn how to make agreements with authority, they are able to talk about their feelings and they are given support to establish themselves in everyday life. Each child is appointed a public defender, who advocates on their behalf throughout the asylum process.

Frederik & Mary at DR1 HIV/AIDS concert & telethon

Tonight Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have attended the concert and collection call centre as patrons of a Danish national fundraising effort between Danish television (DR1) and various aid organisations in Denmark to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. The DRTV fundraiser concert is in the Concert Hall at Tivoli in Copenhagen to be telecast on national television with hosts Reimar Bo Christensen and Signe Lindkvist. Mary and Frederik are official sponsors for the event and many popular DRTV hosts and personalities will be involved in the production. The first part of Frederik and Mary's visit was at the concert and then later at the Tradimus Call Center, Frederiksberg. The huge co-operative effort is between DRTV, church groups, aid organisations, members of the music industry, and, of course, the Danish people, who donate to the telethon.

An alarming fact is the motivation of the telethon: nearly 40 million people are infected with HIV world wide and 70 per cent of them live in Africa, south of the Sahara.

Frederik in new Danish Red Cross appeal

HRH The Crown Prince has chosen to support the annual Red Cross appeal this year in a new way. In a confronting TV ad the Crown Prince calls for a generous response to the appeal. The TV ad points to the unspeakable suffering which requires an active response to the appeal. It is always a challenge to organize such a big collection, but 20,000 people will volunteer to go door to door throughout the country. "All will listen with the Crown Prince speaking, and I am convinced our appeal will be a great success," says Red Cross general secretary Jørgen Poulsen.

HRH The Crown Prince is committed to the principles of Danish Red Cross and each year is more determined to assist with the relief effort. The TV ad has been made with the Crown Prince's regular photographer Steen Evald together with the Skandinavisk Film Company.

Frederik visits Danish Red Cross

Today, Crown Prince Frederik attended a staff meeting at the Danish Red Cross. The focus of the meeting was last week's earthquake in Indonesia and the work the agency is doing in the disaster area. The Crown Prince was briefed on the emergency assistance the agency is providing in his role of affiliation to the Danish Red Cross.
