Queen Margrethe: 67 and counting

A little "photo fest" to get us in the mood for Queen Margrethe's birthday tomorrow. There will be an appearance on the balcony at Amalienborg to celebrate the Queen's 67th year.

The Queen's birthday at Amalienborg in 2004. This was the first time Mary appeared with the family as she was 'official' since her engagement the previous October:

Other birthdays...

...as an archeologist, the Queen studied archeology at Cambridge and Århus University between 1960 and 1962, although she did not complete a degree, she also studied political science at the Sorbonne and the London School of Economics as a preparation for being queen (in London while studying she met Henri de Laborde de Monpezat, who was then a diplomat in the French Embassy):

The Queen 'at work', but really always on duty:

The partnership between the Queen and Prince Henrik is an important foundation for the royal family and Denmark, public and private...

Early life... with mother Crown Princess (later Queen) Ingrid, as a young girl and at her confirmation, aged 15:

As a scenographer and costume designer (this was a production called "Love in a Dustbin" based on H.C. Andersen):

An artist... here painting a tree at Château de Cayx, but the Queen reserves time in her schedule for painting every week:

At the August 2003 annual press conference in Cayx when the Queen confirmed there would be an engagement between Mary and Frederik:

At the market in Cahors, swinging (with a handbag!), yes, the Queen is famously a smoker, and with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden who has said Queen Margrethe is a great example and source of advice for her:

...as per Andy Warhol:
