Margrethe, Frederik & Mary at Fredensborg fakkeltog

All photos by Kim Agersten/POLFOTO

Last night, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik, have made their formal move from their winter residence at Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen to the summer residence, Fredensborg Palace, in North Zealand. In the evening each year on the arrival of the Queen and the Prince Consort, the people of the town of Fredensborg have a torchlight welcome called fakkeltog (torchlight procession). Prince Henrik is actually in Mallorca sailing, but the Queen, Frederik and Mary were at the ceremony.

Of course Frederik, Mary and Christian are in permanent residence at The Chancellery House at Fredensborg until 2009, when renovations at Amalienborg's Frederik VIII’s Palace will be ready for them to use during winter. We will have more on Frederik's and Mary's residences soon.
