Mary hosts New Year reception for her patronages

From the 2005 reception.... Crown Princess Mary greets a guest at Amalienborg last year. There are no photos yet available from this event as it is not open to the media. Photos do become available later when they are published on the websites of some of the organisations at the reception. When that happens we will update this post and post any photos we find in future Danish royal roundups.

On Tuesday (9 January) Crown Princess Mary hosted a reception for her patronages at Christian VIII's Palace, Amalienborg. Representatives of Mary's patronages attended the reception for Mary to wish them a happy new year and for them to have a chance to discuss issues together. Mary formally greets the two representatives from each organisation. As happened last year, this is not a media event, Mary makes it for the organisations and the photos which appeared last year were published on some of the organisation websites and not in the general media.

After the formalities Mary and the guests mingled together and representatives of each organistion had the opportunity to discuss the progress and problems of their organisations during the past year, and also discuss with Mary their plans and projects for the coming year.

According to this article Mary's reception for her patronages is already a tradition (the first was last year), and for Mary it is a reception rather than a New Year court. Niels-Anton Svendsen, the chairman of the Brain Injury Association said "We can get to know the Crown Princess and each other, and there is no doubt that such a meeting today can be used to build networks among the organisations." The Crown Princess was wearing a Chinese inspired jacket and beige skirt in honour of the occasion. "As always very elegant," said French Dr Marc Danzon, from WHO, and who for the sake of his diet didn't try the cake the Crown Princess served the 40 guests who attended. The trip to Amalienborg also brings concrete initiatives to light says Psykiatrifonden. "We discussed psychiatry issues with the Crown Princess and she has really shown great interest in the issues and conditions we are concerned with. We have a concrete plan to start a Nordic initiative, together with her Norwegian colleague (Crown Princess Mette-Marit)," says Jes Gerlach, consultant and chairman of the board the fund.
