Christian: a look @ the photo album

Tomorrow is Prince Christian's second birthday, so a little retrospective is in order.

Christian was born just before 2am on October 15, 2005 and he weighed 3.5 kilos. He had a problem with neonatal jaundice for a few days which was treated with light therapy. To mark the birth of a royal child there were 21 gun salutes from the Sixtus Bettery in Copenhagen Harbour and at Kronborg Castle in North Zealand at midday and beacon bonfires were lit the following night. Three days after being born, Christian made his first public appearance on the way home from hospital.



The same day some photos taken by Steen Evald were released to the media.



Then in November there were two new photos by Steen Evald.



The Crown Prince family Christmas card for 2006 and then for New Year 2006 Mary, Frederik and Christian spent it with their friends Jørgen Skeel his wife Malou and their son at Birkelse Gods near Aalborg. Mary left Aalborg's airport with Christian the next day for the New Year court while Frederik drove home by car.



Next came Christian's christening held on January 21, 2006 at Christiansborg Palace Chapel in Copenhagen.



Less that a month later in February 2006, Christian went with his parents on an official visit to Schleswig-Holstein (Hamburg and Kiel). Just like Isabella now, Christian was breastfed and Mary's program was arranged so she had breaks. He had been to Scotland and the Netherlands on private trips by this time, so was already an experienced traveller. Shortly after the trip to Germany, the family went to Verbier in Switzerland for Mary's birthday. At the end of February Christian got some practice at going to christenings when he went to India Handwerk's, the new daughter to Frederik's and Mary's close friends Jeppe and Birgitte Handwerk. March 3, he was carried by Frederik on arrival in Oslo for Sverre Magnus' christening and March 9, he went 'to work' while Mary was at a conference on suicide. On March 22 he went shopping with Mum and lunch at a friend's later. In early April we learned Christian at 6 months old was having lessons to introduce him to water, joined in the pool by Mary and Frederik (sorry no pics!).



On April 16 he was at Marseliborg in Aarhus to help celebrate the Queen's birthday.



May 12, 2006 Christian was at a horseshow at Bernstorffsparken, Copenhagen.



In June 2006 Prince Christian's monogram, designed by his grandmother the Queen, was revealed.



On June 21 and 22, 2006 Mary and Frederik finished their post wedding tour of Denmark by visiting Bornholm. First they left to join the Dannebrog for the sail to Bornholm and then he made an appearance as the Dannebrog docked. He was seen the next day before his parents left the yacht and then on arrival back in Copenhagen.



At the begining of July three informal photos of Christian in the garden at Kancellihuset were released, taken by Crown Princess Mary.



In July it was holidays in Blokhus in Denmark and Cayx in the South of France.

In early September Christian went on a flying visit to the US while Frederik was sailing in the Farr 40 World Championships and was officially signed into existence as the one to succeed his father by the foreign minister Per Stig Moeller:



Then, it was Christian's first birthday with photos taken by Steen Brogaard (check the Crown Prince Couple's website for galleries).



Then it was a longhaul trip to Australia and a get to know relatives in Australia at the beginning of November.
