A belated happy birthday to
Princess Benedikte who celebrated her 63rd birthday on 29 April. Benedikte Astrid Ingeborg Ingrid was born in 1944 at Amalienborg Palace as the second daughter to
Frederik IX and
Queen Ingrid. Through Benedikte's marriage to Richard Casimir Karl August Robert Konstantin, the sixth prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and head of the German royal house of Sayn-Wittgenstein, Princess Benedikte is also princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Benedikte lives at the
Berleburg Palace in Germany and she also has an apartment at Amalienborg where she is based for her Danish royal committements. Frederik IX determined that Benedikte's three children (Gustav, Alexandra and Nathalie) would not be in line of succession to the Danish throne unless they were brought up in Denmark, which they have not been. Benedikte is a member of the State Council and acts as regent in Denmark when necessary.
