At the Athens Olympics 2004

If you encounter this blog from a 'non-Mary' direction you might wonder why the special interest. Frederik and Mary met by sheer chance in September 2000 at the Sydney Olympics. Frederik was a VIP visitor in support of the Danish Olympic Team and Mary was living and working in Sydney as an advertising executive. Mary almost didn't go to the chance meeting at the Slip Inn in The Rocks with her housemate who was a friend of a friend of another visiting European royal. But happily, she did go without knowing Frederik was the Crown Prince of Denmark at first, got talking with Frederik, who asked her for her phone number, and he then pursued her without the Danish press knowing.
Mary was born in Tasmania, Australia, and grew up there in a close family with two sisters and a brother. Mary's parents worked at the University of Tasmania, her father as a professor of Applied Mathematics. Frederik's story was well known, as he had grown up in the public eye as the heir to the Danish throne.
Mary and Frederik were engaged in October 2003 and were married in May 2004. On 15 October 2005 Mary gave birth to a baby boy who will be christened at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen on 21 January 2006.
We aim to feature photos, news, information and links about Mary and Frederik and the Danish royal family and recommend registering at the Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth of Denmark Message Board as a further comprehensive resource.
We hope you enjoy following the story of Mary and Frederik.
